A NAS or File server is a piece of computer hardware that contains all data so all users on the local network can access that data.

File Servers ensure all data is kept up-to-date no matter which user accesses it and when. Most file servers have some sort of RAID configuration of hard disks which adds redundancy to data storage and retrieval.

A NAS drive can be customised using samba on a Linux based operating system like ubuntu but there are many high quality dedicated NAS drives produced by manufacturers like QNAP and Synology that offer secure cloud storage and are a suitable alternative.

QNAP NAS

A QNAP NAS is a linux based file server with 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, 18, 20, 24 or 28 bays for special NAS hard disks.

We generally stock one of 2 and 4 bay Qnap NAS but can order others in.

The NAS hard drives to be used in the 2 and 4 bay models are 1TB to 18TB in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60, TP and TM configurations.
